the zine

The Oblivion Spin Occasionally is a spiritual successor to a monthly newsletter I made and displayed on the counter of my 4th grade classroom.

The project began in late March of 2020. Issues will come out... occasionally. The goal is quarterly-ish.

At this time, the zine features art and writing by yours truly, as well as intermittent help from guests and friends of the zine! Issues average around 32 pages.

Re-occurring content includes: creative non fiction excerpts from my "Memory Tourist" project, Dear Met, Interviews and the End Poem. Other features will be experimented with, so if you see one you like, please send in your feedback.

If you want to get involved with the zine by sending in a "Dear Met" letter, letter to the editor, anonymous feedback or anything else you can think of, get in touch using one of the methods in the "keep in touch" tab or tag your instagram posts with #oblivionspinoccasionally

Zines can be purchased on my etsy MdotTinsleyWorks in digital and (a limited amount of) physical formats.

Behind the Zines #1

I sent out some 22 copies of the first issue of The Oblivionspin Occasionally on Monday. Just 5 days ago, although it seems like 50. The interest and support has been overwhelming, even though only one person besides myself has seen it yet. I'm fiddling with content for the second issue, really hoping people enjoy the first, and I already ran into a major issue. My life is not lighthearted. Anecdotes I thought would be charming need content warnings. I'm quarantining upsetting conversations to companion minizines. Sitting here anxiously wondering what planned features I need to scrap. I am the creator, editor, marketing, distribution and everything for this teeny tiny magazine. Any expectations people have for it so far are purely based on their perception of my personality. It isn't a question of who this project is for- nah that's easy- people who are interested in what I have to say, people who see what I do online and like what they see. I've just got ...

Stay Dope as Fuck

Volume 1 Issue 2 of the Oh es Oh features 2 special guests. The first of which is Soraya the Great, who lends his universal knowledge in a long chat and his art skills to the center spread of the zine. My printing set up being what it is (charmingly crappy), the original triptych "Stay Dope As Fuck" appears somewhat faded- here is the original artwork in full color. post & pride

I am the most begrudging "content creator" ever.  Oh sure, I love making things; I'm writing non stop. But keeping up with the blur and rush of social media and having a website (or a so two thousand and eight blogspot ) is maddening. It is so incredibly unfortunate that when I make things I have to communicate that to people instead of just throwing my manuscript or zine or whatever out the door, trusting word will get out.  In that vein- I was featured on the Hello America Lit summer collection, you can check out my very short track  here.  I'm thrilled to have been included on the mix.  Spoken word and readings of my work is something I want to get into a lot more, but have been intimidated by such minor details of webhosting and sound quality. I recorded that story with a cardboard box on top of my head and no one has complained about it yet (except my best friend who said my voice sounded 'different').  I am not making any vows of blogging regularly, b...
